Béatrice Ferrant Leaving Rochas

Another restructuring…

There seems always to be a restructuring happening somewhere in the fashion world, and this time menswear designer Béatrice Ferrant is being ousted from Rochas.

As we have reported many times in recent months, there has been shake-up, after shake-up,  across design houses in Europe. Restructuring here, reimagining there, a constant barrage of change is happening among the European fashion design houses.

Today it was reported via WWD, that Béatrice Ferrant, menswear designer for the French fashion house Rochas will be leaving as creative director after only two seasons with the house.

Ferrant described her vision of the Rochas man being “Extremely elegant, a humanist, a cosmopolitan man, a traveler who is free in his movement.” In her Fall/Winter 17′ menswear collection Ferrant created many classic and delicate pieces that mix well with the oversized more masculine pieces to create an intricate balance.

Although they have announced her departure, the brand has also stated that they have not made a final decision on her successor. There are apparently two designers in the front-running, but the official statement on who will become creative director will not be announced until the first quarter of 2018.

The re-launch of the Rochas menswear line comes after a 22-year hiatus of menswear collections from the brand, which makes the decision of this new designer a crucial choice. Many brands are choosing to restructure and downsize, but Rochas is taking a significant risk in this type of expansion. Especially since Rochas was taken over by Interparfums, many other divisions of the brand have been discontinued.

Finding the right fit for the new designer may take several seasons, but, it seems as though they are taking things into very close consideration while choosing their new direction. The womenswear division is headed by creative director Alessandro Dell’Acqua, but he is not expected to take over the menswear line.
