Carmelo Anthony has been the highlight of discussion for the past few weeks. As if his beef with Knicks president Phil Jackson wasn’t enough, him and his wife La La Anthony have decided to separate.
The decision comes as a surprise to some, but the couple haven’t been enjoying each other’s company for some time.
“They have been fighting for about a year,” a source close to the couple told the Daily News. “The marriage has always been a rocky one, so this is no surprise,” via the New York Daily News.
It’s almost like Phil and La La are trying out as a tag-team tandem; piling on Carmelo and repeatedly smashing him in the face with a folding chair.
The couple’s rocky relationship is probably the reason Anthony had a tough season for the Knicks as well, but only part of the blame can fall at the feet of the NBA star’s wife. There is a possibility that a trade would have helped their marriage, but it might have taken a championship to keep them together. All in all, times call for tough decisions, and the Anthony’s have decided that it is in their best interest to go their separate ways for the time being.
The world of sports tends to weigh heavily on wives and girlfriends of players. And they have to deal with their other half being out of town for half of the year. Some can handle it, others cannot, but it is a necessary evil that a significant other has to deal with, especially when they are in the spotlight.
La La Anthony is no stranger to the spotlight though, so chalk this one up to a separation that was bound to happen sooner or later.
And for a moment, everyone can forget all about the Aaron Rodgers and Olivia Munn break up from last week being the biggest news to sports fan’s wives or girlfriends.
