Whether you’re 21 or 51, committing to a few vital, anti-aging beauty habits is always a good idea. You could be harming your skin and causing premature wrinkles without even being aware of it.

Here are ten anti-aging beauty tips to live by:

Take Care of Your Under Eyes

If you aren’t using under eye cream before bed, you’re making a huge mistake. It’s never too soon to start caring for the skin under your eyes and on your lids, which is extremely thin and sensitive. Apply cream, such as First Aid Beauty’s 5 in 1 Eye Cream, using your ring finger because it is the most gentle. Then, press the product down instead of rubbing it in. The key is to not be too rough so that you aren’t causing the skin to droop, crease, or wrinkle.

Sleep The Right Way

Yes, that’s right. There’s even a correct way to get some shut eye. Switch out your pillow case for a silk one which is much more gentle on your skin. Also, if you generally sleep on your side, consider trying to sleep on your back so that you don’t crease your skin and cause fine lines.

Protect From The Sun

I’m sure you’ve read this tip hundreds of times but it really is the cardinal rule of skincare. Protect yourself from the sun everyday, not just when you’re heading to the beach or going on vacation. Also, while using makeup products that contain SPF is great, it’s not enough to solely rely on them. Find a sunscreen that you trust to keep your skin protected, and use it every morning as part of your beauty routine. Glossier’s Invisible Shield Sunscreen with SPF 35 is light and doesn’t have that stong sunscreen smell, making it perfect for daily use.

When you are at the beach, stay out of the sun as much as possible. Bring a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses with you to keep rays away from your face.

Don’t Forget Your Hands

While ensuring that your face looks young and fresh, don’t forget about your hands. Hands are often the truest age signifier, so using an effective hand cream each night can help keep fragile skin from wrinkling. I keep Ahava Dead Sea Mud Hand Cream on my nightstand so I remember to use it each night before bed. After using it for just a few weeks I noticed that my hands looked and felt softer and smoother.

Neck and Chest

Any moisturizing or anti-aging products that you use on your face, should also be dragged down to your neck and chest as they show signs of aging as well. Also, each time you exfoliate your face, be sure to do the same to your neck and chest. It’s important to get rid of dry or damaged skin and keep it hydrated and glowing.

You Are What You Eat

Some anti-aging remedies work from the inside out. A healthy, balanced diet can help your skin glow and stay in optimum condition. Water is also necessary in achieving younger, healthy looking skin. Try to drink one ounce of water for each pound you weigh everyday.

No Smoking

While this may seem obvious, it’s necessary to include. In addition to cancer and a multitude of other illnesses, smoking is terrible for your skin. It speeds up the aging process, causing wrinkles and dull looking skin. If you’re looking for a fresh, healthy glow smoking cigarettes won’t get you there.

Hyaluronic Acid

Finding the perfect moisturizer is a skincare must. Opt for a moisturizer that contains hylauronic acid, which increases collagen and helps maintain hydration. Its ability to keep collagen synthesis up makes hylauronic acid the perfect anti-aging ingredient. I use Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Water Gel every morning to keep my skin supple and fill in any fine lines or wrinkles.

Take Off Your Makeup

Please, whatever you do, don’t skip this step in your nighttime routine. Don’t go to sleep without removing your makeup, and yes that is a separate step than washing your face. Opt for a gentle makeup removing cleanser such as Clinique’s Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm which melts makeup off instantly, leaving your skin soft and clean. If you prefer wipes, Sephora’s Rose Cleansing & Exfoliating Wipes remove makeup easily and gently without causing any irritation or harsh rubbing.

Use Upwards Motions

When applying any creams or serums to your face, make sure you rub in upwards motions. Dragging your skin down will cause it to sag and become more susceptible to wrinkles.
