Quarterback Deshaun Watson has inked his rookie deal with the Houston Texans.
The former Clemson Tiger signed a four-year contract that is worth $13.854 million and includes a signing bonus of $8.215 million.
Thanks for the CBA the Texans have a team option for a fifth season.
Running back D’Onta Foreman, their third-round pick from Texas, is the only unsigned rookie of their draft class.
Although Foreman is expected to make a large impact on the team’s woeful running game, the Texans needed to get Watson on paper as the future of their franchise.
Houston’s two-day rookie camp has kicked off and Watson’s Day 1 buy-in is c critical component to the team’s short and long term future.
The franchise can publicly state that incumbent Tom Savage is their starter all that they want to for now.
But the facts are that it will take more than a act of God to keep Watson from reeling in the starter’s job before the season begins.
Savage is just ok and is not someone that can lead them to a division title let alone a Super Bowl.
Watson on the other hand has a champion’s pedigree and a superior skill set.
Barring injury, time is the only thing that stands in his way.
