Fear grows in R.L. Stine’s Man-Thing Comic Book series

Marvel Comics promotes R.L. Stine’s comic series Man-Thing.

Horror icon author R.L. Stine known throughout the world for delivering spine chilling scares with the Goosebumps franchise turns his talents over to Marvel Comics. The creepy Man-Thing makes his way through the swamps and bayous, as the genius of R.L Stine shall embark a staple for the character and the horror genre. A series consisting of five books has released this year enticing fear and other elements of suspense and drama as the mind of Man-Thing is expressed in a new direction. The story begins in Man-Thing (2017) #1.

R.L. Stine has written numerous books being involved in multiple franchises including Fear Street, The Nightmare Room, Mostly Ghostly, and the Rotten School series. His approach to horror has given everlasting memories of fright and fear as each chapter draws us closer to fictional danger.

Biochemist Dr. Theodore Ted Sallis, Man-Thing, is a character created by Stan Lee, Gerry Conway, Gray Morrow, and Roy Thomas under Marvel Comics. The creature made his initial appearance on the comic book scene in 1971 under the title Savage Tales #1.

Theodore transformed into the towering green giant after attempting to recreate the genetically enhancing super soldier serum given to Captain America. When a terrorist organization sought out Theodore’s serum the good doctor used the drug on himself. Theodore escaped his would be captors deep within the neighboring swamp. The plants responded to the serum and together nature and science become one being. Theodore died leaving only Man-Thing to survive.

Stine tells Marvel his excitement over the character and what it means to dive into the comic book scene.

“Back then, I never dreamed I would get a chance to write a comic book series. So the MAN-THING series has been a dream come true for me. Taking that massive garbage heap of a character and making him come alive was a wonderful challenge for me.”
