Gucci’s autobiography is getting the biopic treatment.
Back in October of 2017, the same day as their wedding, Gucci Mane & Keyshia Ka’Oir: The Mane Event premiered on BET and its sister network BET Her. The ten part docuseries followed the couple as they navigated the up and downs of planning their dream wedding and the blending of their families.
The series premiered to almost 2 million viewers as the couple walked down the aisle in front of stars such as Rick Ross, Big Sean, 2Chainz, Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kim Zolciak-Biermann, and Monica, among others.
The show’s success seems to have made an impression on Hollywood. Variety reveals that there seems to be an interest in the life of Gucci Mane. Paramount Players and Imagine Entertainment have procured the rights to his memoir The Autobiography of Gucci Mane and will be turning it into a biopic of the rapper.
The ball is already rolling on the project as Imagine’s Brian Grazer and Erica Huggins are set to produce the film. Gucci Mane, whose real name is Radric Delantic Davis, and Todd Moskowitz will act as executive producers as well.
Variety reveals that the book “tells of his childhood in poverty in Alabama and his move to Atlanta, where he became involved in criminal activity. He spent nearly three years in prison starting in 2004 after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. While incarcerated, he began releasing mixtapes from prison with rappers Migos and Young Thug.”
It’s not surprising that Hollywood would want to produce this story. It’s a tale of redemption and changing your station in life. It’s also become more common for films to be based on a memoir or tell the backstory of a celebrity.
No more further information on the biopic has been released at this time.
