Paris Fashion Week- The famous fashion house Lanvin is known for their attention to detail and beautiful, radiant looks. This season, Lanvin gave us a lesson in traditional French Luxury.
Creative director Bouchra Jarrar had some massive shoes to fill when she took over as creative director of Lanvin in March of 2016 after the exit of iconic designer Alber Elbaz. Although she is unknown to many people outside of the fashion world, Jarrar is a seasoned designer, having worked under Nicholas Ghesquiere, and previously being the creative director of Christian Lacroix. She is one of very few designers who is a Grand Couturier and a member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, which is a part of The Fédération française de la couture.
All of her preparation and learning under Ghesquiere, and working as creative director for Christian Lacroix has no doubt given her all the tools she needed to take over from a visionary like Elbaz. We saw the raw talent, and passion Jarrar has for her craft in her Summer 2017 collection for Lanvin, but now with Fall, it seems she has grown comfortable with her position, and it is a match made in heaven.
Shown at the Hôtel de Ville, the atmosphere of gold and crystal chandeliers and beautifully woven tapestries gave the perfect backdrop for a show that was abundantly feminine. Colors of blush, ivory, black and white, were the base of a collection that consisted of ruffled tulle gowns, striped silk separates, and gorgeous fur pieces that will keep the most glamourous woman warm. Some of our favorite pieces, (pictured below) are the emphasis of Parisienne femininity.
Although the collection was definitely on the delicate side, Jarrar added a few touches of masculinity to her designs as well with leather pieces and well-tailored trousers (below).
After seeing this collection, Bouchra has captured the essence of what it means to be a Lanvin woman. Smart, Sexy, and classic, these designs are effortlessly wearable and timeless.
