Macklemore is alright. Apparently, the Washington State-rapper was recently involved in a head-on collision with an alleged drunk driver, in a town just 90 minutes north of Seattle.
According to TMZ, the accident happened Friday night, just before 11 p.m., when a pickup truck driver crossed into oncoming traffic and hit Macklemore’s Mercedes Benz.
Police say that the driver of the pickup truck was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of impact, which caused him to smash his head into the windshield, leaving him unconscious and bleeding. The man reportedly told officers at the scene that he had a drink “awhile back.” When asked how long it had been, the man reportedly replied “5 o’clock.”
Macklemore was traveling with two passengers when the collision occurred. One of the passengers was treated at the scene for a minor cut to the head, however, all three walked away from the accident virtually unharmed. The driver of the pickup truck was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and, according to TMZ, has been charged with driving under the influence.
Washington State Police, in a statement to ET Canada, confirmed that the 24-year-old truck driver was injured, but not seriously.
“He was injured enough that he had to be transported to the hospital and he was arrested on suspicion of DUI,” a police spokesman told ET. “Macklemore was not injured.”
Representatives of the 34-year-old Hip-Hop recording artist have yet to be reached for comment on the accident.
Macklemore is currently working on finishing up his first solo album in the last 12 years. His most recent single, “Marmalade” featuring Lil Yachty was released last week and is expected to be one of the highlights of his yet-to-be-titled solo project, along with the single, “Glorious” featuring Skylar Grey, which was released back in June.
