Atlanta rapper/producer Future has had an astonishing year. In 2017, he released his fifth and sixth studio albums one week apart, becoming the first artist to debut two albums at the number one spot on the Billboard 200 and Canadian Albums chart consecutively.
If that weren’t enough, his own flesh-and-blood brother and Freebandz record label signee, Casino, has been on a hot streak dropping mixtape after mixtape.
Casino got his start in the mid-’90s, collaborating with Austin, Texas rapper, Nook. But, his career didn’t really take off until 2012, when he signed with Freebandz Entertainment.
His latest mixtape, Boss Man 3, features 14 brand new tracks and special guest appearances by Future, 550, Quis, Lil Daddy, Lani and Sonny 2 Cup.
The new mixtape comes less than two months after the release of Ex-Drug Dealer 3, the second follow-up record to his 2013 debut, and features a bevy of hit-producers, including Trapmafia, MetroBoomin, Richie Souf, Atl Jacob, Mike WiLL Made It, DY, Tre Pounds and Cicero of 808 Mafia.
Although he has quite a ways to go before achieving the kind of notoriety his brother frequently receives, Casino flexes his musical muscles on “Big Bossman,” a track which he self-produced.
Other noteworthy tracks include “Wraith,” and “I’m On,” which are both instant classics, for their Southern trap beats and mumbled lyrics.
Boss Man 3 is a solid mixtape, but could not stand alone on its own. Casino has a lot of potential, but it may still be some time before we see him featured on a full-length studio album.
