This must be the season of letting customers personalize and design their own shoes. First, Stuart Weitzman and now Nike… but, hey we aren’t complaining.
Nike has unveiled their new Live-Design Experience called “Nike Makers’ Experience.” It will take place at the Nike By You Studio at 45 Grand in New York. This innovative experience has arrived right in time for New York Fashion Week.
Nike has a long history of collaborating with different athletes and celebrities to develop sneakers, many of which have become instant hits. Now, Nike is flipping the script and collaborating with their customers to ensure that they love their new shoes from the inside out.
Mark Smith, Vice President of Innovation Special Projects, commented on the project saying, “The intention of the project is to bring to life the collaborative design experience that we offer our athletes. They love products that tell their story, so we wanted to combine that idea with a new process of live design and manufacturing that allows our guests to come into the space, work collaboratively with us and leave with a special product in less than 90 minutes.”
The customizable sneaker is the Nike Presto X, pictured above. Customers can choose between this original version of the shoe or a slip-on version. Then, after choosing the final design in their preferred color, pattern, material, and so on the shoe will be ready in just about an hour.
That means you can design your shoes, grab lunch, and then pick them up ready to hit the streets.
Behind these doors marked “Authorized Personnel Only” is where Nike associates will make your ideas come to life.
As of right now, this Live-Design Experience is invite only and is limited to Nike friends and family and select Nike members. We look forward to this experience opening up to the public as it represents the future of fashion: personalized and immediate.
