As we all know, sports is one of the many things that brings us together in the game of life. This month, Nike revealed a new piece of sportswear that proves the brand’s efforts of furthering equality and inclusivity within the sports arena, a sports hijab for Muslim athletes.
A project that has been in the making for over a year, the Nike Pro-Hijab was tested by athletes including figure skater Zahra Lari according to ABC News. The new Nike Pro-Hijab was designed to not only be comfortable, with light-weight, breathable fabric, it was also constructed to make sure the athletes could move swiftly without the garment untucking due to strenuous activity. So far, the product will come in three colors; Black, Obsidian, and vast gray.
In a post on her Instagram page, Zahra Lari, who will likely be headed to the Winter Olympics in South Korea next year for the United Arab Emirates, was over the moon about the new product and her involvement.
Can’t believe this is finally here!! I’m super super excited to announce the Nike Pro hijab !! So proud to be part of this incredible journey 💪🏼

Although the product will not be available for purchase until sometime next year, the fact that the largest sports brand in the world has taken a stand to make such a product is a much-needed step in the right direction. Through all of the adversity that women face in sports, especially Muslim women, having a hijab that meets their athletic needs will no longer be one of them.
