Nipsey Hussle and Kendrick Lamar converse on the importance of hard work and patience in ‘Dedication’.
To achieve a goal, a dream, or anything worth achieving it takes a great deal of time, effort, conviction, and most importantly dedication. LA born 32 year old rapper Nipsey Hussle and his good friend Kendrick Lamar both understand and appreciate the seriousness of this, and lay down some heavy verses about it in Hussles’s latest single “Dedication”.
“Dedication” is the latest single from Hussle’s upcoming fifth album Victory Lap, which is his first LP since 2014’s Mailbox Money. Victory Lap will have guest spots from not just Lamar, but CeeLo Green, Puff Daddy, YG, and many more.
“Dedication” like many other rap songs talks about starting from the bottom and now being at the top, but there is more to it than that.
The message of the song is that in order to get to the top, it takes a great deal of blood, sweat, tears, time, and most importantly dedication. It does not just happen over night with little to no effort put in whatsoever.
Anything worth having is going to involve copious amounts of all of the aforementioned things.
Lamar spits some profound lyrics that add to the message as well.
It turns the song from a one man soliloquy into more of a conversation between two rappers who know how real the struggle is and what it takes to get through it and come out the other end on top.
The beat is solid. It has enough presence to make it acknowledged and give the bars a bit more punch, but not so much that it overpowers and distracts from the messages being conveyed.
Victory Lap is due out this Friday.
Keep up with music at Salute.
