Anna Sui took the New York Fashion Week runways by surprise with a collection that perfectly embodies a luxurious combination of eras.
Sui titled her collection “Beloved,” due to her wanting to create a fashion world she had dreamed of while living in Detroit, “before she came to New York.” The designer created a range that brings a fresh newness to simple classic staple pieces. Each piece is perfectly constructed to work well with one another.
Bella and Gigi Hadid opened up the show with unique designs in rich hues that took the audience to a new era- an era of posh glam with a hint of Mudd-Club vibes.
The collection consisted of bold, groovy hues of muted cranberry, ocean blues, rich blacks, velvety purples and hints of mustard yellow, perfectly paired together with daring patterns on simple silhouettes for an 80’s feel that seemed almost sinful. Ruffles were added in with delicately placed rhinestones for a feminine touch, and two-toned faux fur coats in floral prints were the cherry on top.
Likewise, the range showcased Sui’s collaboration with Levi featuring wearable trousers and blazers.
The stand-out piece of the night was a mint green gown with rose-colored beading on the neckline worn by Bella Hadid to close the show. Sui has stated she wants the gown to be featured on the red carpet this year.
Every design was paired with tan leather fanny packs that matched the lace-up boots and platform oxfords by Bed Stu.
Sui’s assembly of designs was able to perfectly mesh her dream world into feminine yet daring pieces that scream luxury with a hint of old-world glam. Who said different eras, daring hues, and simple silhouettes couldn’t make a gorgeous collection.
