Leave it up to Philipp Plein, to create an excess filled show that wowed the crowd from beginning to end. The German designer who is notorious for putting together ultra-flashy runway productions did not disappoint in his fall 2018 RTW runway show.

Filled with an 18-meter-wide floating spaceship, red laser lights, soapy fake snow, rappers and even a spaceship, Plein’s odyssey-themed show was an event of its own kind. True to Plein’s unconventional ways, the coed collection had a futuristic, sportswear, more-is-definitely-more connotation behind it.

The women’s range featured ski-inspired skin-tight catsuits and bodysuits encrusted with beautiful crystals and/or cut with latex, oversized puffers with bold flyaway logo straps, metallic crop tops, and colorful almost sinful fur coats. In addition, the designer constructed a wide-range of clear coats that proposed a trendy way of staying warm in colder weather while still showing off the sexy, avant-garde garments worn underneath.

The men’s collection was edgy. It featured spacesuit puffers, studded biker jackets perfectly paired with latex trousers, and hoodies that were worn with bear backpacks adorned with the Playboy signature logo.

The stand out pieces of the production were new sneakers and handbags that showcased the brand’s logo in bold, bright LED lights. As for the skiwear, bedazzled goggles and snowboards gave the audience a clever surprise.

In true Philipp Plein manner, the range brought something different and new to New York Fashion Week. It gave the audience a look into planet Plein, where models, rappers, and robots, coexist to showcase a collection of garments with an unconventional feel.
