Serena Williams’ daughter ,Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., became the youngest cover star in the history of Vogue Magazine.
On Wednesday the champion tennis player took to her Instagram account to share her excitement on gracing the cover of Vogue with her daughter. She shared her cover photo with the caption:
“When I first saw this @voguemagazine cover it brought tears to my eyes. All vogue covers are special, but to share this one with my beautiful daughter @olympiaohanian also the youngest vogue star makes it a moment I will never forget.”
Shot by photographer Mario Testino, the cover showcases Williams in a gorgeous, yet simple red dress that highlights her figure, paired with minimal gold jewelry, and her beautiful engagement ring. Baby Alexis keeps things classy and chic by wearing a simple white onesie.
In the article, the Olympian medalist opens up about the health issues she faced after giving birth, and the difficulties she has encountered as a new mother.
“Sometimes I get really down and feel like, Man, I can’t do this. It’s that same negative attitude I have on the court sometimes. I guess that’s just who I am. No one talks about the low moments—the pressure you feel, the incredible letdown every time you hear the baby cry. I’ve broken down I don’t know how many times. Or I’ll get angry about the crying, then sad about being angry, and then guilty, like, Why do I feel so sad when I have a beautiful baby? The emotions are insane.”
Williams also shared with Vogue how her daughter has helped her feel less competitive. “When I’m too anxious I lose matches, and I feel like a lot of that anxiety disappeared when Olympia was born. Knowing I’ve got this beautiful baby to go home to makes me feel like I don’t have to play another match. I don’t need the money or the titles or the prestige. I want them, but I don’t need them. That’s a different feeling for me.”
The issue will be on newsstands and in stores worldwide on January 16th.
