Take a Look Inside Serena Williams’ New Orleans Wedding

Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian Tie The Knot

Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian tied the knot at their New Orleans fairytale wedding on November 16th. As featured exclusively in Vogue, the wedding date was special to the couple because it marks the anniversary of Ohanian’s mother’s death.

Serena told Vogue,  “It is her birthday, and we wanted her to be represented at the wedding. Obviously, we wish that she could be here for this, but choosing her birthday as our wedding date was a nice way of making sure she’s still involved and made us feel more connected to her on our day.”

The couple chose New Orleans because they love the European influences of the city. The groom especially loved New Orleans’ food, art, and culture. Serena said, “The venue—the Contemporary Arts Center of New Orleans—was a decision we both made. Painting and art is something I’m really passionate about, so it just felt natural and different to do it at a contemporary art museum.”

The tennis champion wore a custom Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen ballgown for her special day. Serena said, “I loved the idea of doing a really spectacular ball gown, and it has turned out to be such an incredibly special piece.”

Ohanian wore an Armani suit that was fit to perfection. The bridesmaids were dressed just as glamorously in their custom Galia Lahav gowns.

The guest list was anything but ordinary including people like Kim Kardashian West, Beyoncé, Anna Wintour, and Ciara.

Perhaps the most important wedding guest was the newlywed’s little girl Olympia. Their two and a half month old daughter was born in early September. She wore a beautiful ivory dress to the wedding ceremony.

The newlyweds had a beautiful wedding ceremony and reception that fulfilled all of their wildest dreams and then some. The wedding ended with Ohanian surprising his new bride by unveiling an illuminated, white carousel from behind a curtain. Guests eagerly jumped on the horses as it begun to spin around and around.

During their exchange of vows, Ohanian said,“You are the greatest of all time, not just in sport. I’m talking about as a mother and as a wife. I am so excited to write so many more chapters of our fairytale together. And my whole life I didn’t even realize it, but I was waiting for this moment.”

We wish the happy couple a lifetime of happiness.
