Review: Suntory Hibiki Harmony Whiskey is Sheer Perfection

The Hakushu Distillery has produced yet another masterpiece.

Suntory Hibiki Harmony is Sheer Perfection

The Hakushu Distillery is held in reverence not only for its scenic locale among the deepest forests of Mt. Kaikomagatake in the Japanese Southern Alps, but for the  award-winning whiskey that it churns out.

Since 1973, the house has infused the local micro-climate into their malt whiskies. There is not another spot on the globe where this fusion of environment and process can come together to create something so unique.

Yet, when whiskey is discussed in the general public, the rarest brands of southern and/or Irish favorites make their way to the head of the line.

Its time to change that as the Suntory Hibiki Harmony is an incredible blend that easily could sit at a higher price point.

At the onset, gentle spices brought on by clove, citrus and cinnamon set the palette up for a warm and generous experience.

At contact, the young blend delivers as advertised with a warm punch that finishes the shot off with a kick that is earthy and not overwhelming.

On its way down, serious drinkers will spot the taste of the barrel that provides it with the final push.

The craftsmanship that went into this batch is to be commended.

The flavor profile allows Hibiki Harmony to be quite versatile. Its earthy enough to sit with a red-meat entrée and sweet enough to be poured with desert.

At 43-percent alcohol by content, it is also the preferred running mate on a long night.

While definitely the younger sibling to the company’s other products, Suntory Hibiki Harmony is the spot-on introduction to the best that the East has to offer.

Fight the urge to scoff at the fact that it’s a blend and understand that at under $80 USD, it’s quite a steal.
