Yesterday comedian/writer Charlie Murphy passed away after battling Leukemia. Murphy came into the business with the help of his brother Eddie and wrote on a few of Murphy’s films which included Vampire In Brooklyn and Norbit.
Murphy became noted in front of the camera for his role as the hood-rich gangster Gusto in Chris Rock’s rap parody CB4.
These experiences all lead him to Dave Chappelle’s Chappelle Show on Comedy Central.
His meteoric rise as the foil of both Rick James and Prince in his True Hollywood Stories sketches remain staples of the genre.
As the world mourned Murphy on Wednesday, Chappelle himself showed up at John Mayer’s show in Ohio to pay tribute to his fallen friend.
Ending with “You’re Gonna Live Forever in Me,” the tribute starts at the 4:00 mark.
