Lil Xan has been getting a lot of attention, following the release of his breakout hit single, “Betrayed,” which climbed to No. 67 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in December. Now, the 21-year-old California rapper is back with a brand new music video, which throws shade on the over-glorification drug abuse.
It’s no secret that the emerging young rapper was previously addicted to Xanax—a prescription muscle relaxant from which his stage-name was derived—along with opiates and benzodiazepine, which he was able to quit after two years of addiction.
His latest single, “Wake Up,” was produced by Danny Wolf and Dilip, and addresses nausea affiliated with coming down off of drugs. It could be also be construed as a song about partying too hard the night before, although nursing a hangover after a night of drinking is hardly the same as waking up the next morning “feeling like I’m dead.” Nevertheless, it’s fun to watch as Xan prepares and devours his imbalanced breakfast.
