Rapper XXXTentacion is currently behind bars and could potentially be facing serious jail time, if convicted of seven new felony charges, including witness tampering and witness harassment, in addition to the initial battery and false imprisonment accusations.
Back in October 2016, XXXTentacion was accused of domestic abuse, aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, and false imprisonment stemming from a series of alleged attacks on an ex-girlfriend.
According to NME, prosecutors now believe the 19-year-old Floridian rapper allegedly coerced his ex-girlfriend into signing a document, earlier this month, stating that she did not want him to be prosecuted.
Based on the initial reports obtained by Pitchfork in September, a 142-page transcript of testimony by the alleged victim was delivered over twoand a half hours in January at a public defender’s office in Miami, detailing how she found out that she was pregnant with the rapper. However, paranoid that the child was not his, threatened to kill her and the unborn child before “he head-butted her, punched her, stomped on her, and put her in the bathtub, where he continued hitting and kicking her.” The victim alleges that he then confiscated her cell phone so she could not call the police. She later escaped his apartment and went to police, who recovered her phone from his apartment.
Less than a week before the transcript surfaced, XXXTentacion made waves with his debut album, 17, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 charts. The album is noted for its experimental mix of genres, including emo, indie rock, and lo-fi.
He was also arrested in August for a separate incident that occurred in November 2015. He was charged with armed home invasion, robbery, and aggravated battery with a firearm, which he pleaded no contest to in March 2017 and was ordered to serve six years of probation. If found guilty of the seven new felony charges, he faces decades behind bars.
