Review: Zuhair Murad’s Fall/Winter Couture Collection

Zuhair Murad dominates the stage

Zuhair Murad introduced his Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2017-18 collection on July 5, 2017 in Paris, France. His stunning gowns were equal parts glamour and ethereal goddess.

Murad designed his garments using a soft color palette with gowns in nude, blush, gray, and white. Heavy use of beading and feathers promoted a feminine, regal style. Several gowns also featured beautiful capes and ruffled necklines, giving the gowns a unique aspect.

One particular gown featured a sheer top with beading on the bust, and gray velvet skirt which billowed from the waist down. Also, a matching gray velvet cape fastened at the model’s neck with an abundance of gray feathers, draped down to the floor.

Murad used plunging necklines and sheer fabric, exposing black or nude undergarments. The designer injected a small pop of bright color on two aqua blue garments.

While these pieces stayed true to the collection’s overall feel, they also added some contrast from the otherwise subtle color palette. One ensemble was a sheer, fitted long sleeve gown, with several areas of rich embroidered patches. A belt hugged the model’s waist and fastened a full, beautiful train onto the gown.

The other colorful ensemble, in the same shade of blue, was a calf length dress with ruffles of tulle on the bodice and wrists and a sheer neckline. Blue lace up heels added some weight to the otherwise soft, delicate dress.

Some familiar faces graced the runway such as Victoria’s Secret angel Sara Sampaio. She traded in her wings for a white lace, calf length dress complete with intricate sleeves and a beautiful, beaded belt.

Hairstyles were kept in simple, loose up dos adding to the ethereal feel of the collection. Delicate, wire flower crowns also adorned each model’s head. The understated hair and makeup kept the focus on Murad’s beautiful couture pieces.

The show’s finale unveiled a bride who sauntered down the runway wearing a long sleeve gown with a full skirt and intricate detail. Murad covered the entire gown in elaborate beading and burst of feathers.

The sheer bodice and sleeves added to the gown’s feminine, delicate style. A veil draped down onto the floor, trailing far behind the model. Lastly, an ornate, crystal headpiece truly fit for a queen, sat atop the model’s head.

Murad’s couture collection was filled with exquisite works of art, which spoke to the beauty of femininity and fantasy that inspired the designer.
