Reunion? Dwyane Wade Opts Out of Contract with Heat

This decision may be a surprise to some, as the 12 year veteran for the Miami Heat has opted out of his current contract with the Miami HeatDwyane Wade will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st according to ESPN sources.

Wade was set to make $16.1 million in the 2015/2016 upcoming NBA season. With Wade now set to sign with any team of his choice as early as Wednesday, there is no guarantee that any other team will offer the now injury prone, 33 year old more than $16 million  this upcoming season.

If it is truly about the money for Wade, he probably would have stayed in Miami under his contract, as no team is expected to pay him what Miami did.  This move leaves everyone wondering why Wade would turn down so much money.

There is only one explanation everyone is thinking about: A Lebron James and Dwyane Wade reunion in 2015.

It seems fitting that Wade opted out a day after Lebron opted out of his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers. This gives Wade the freedom to talk to Lebron as free agency gets underway and perhaps play together this upcoming season.

ESPN sources believe that Wade will seek a similar contract he was due to make from the Heat, roughly around $16 million a year from whoever he signs with.

Wade is taking a chance opting out of his contract as there are teams who will not want to pay that kind of money. He has missed playing time the past two seasons due to injuries and he is just not the same player he was five years ago. Age seems to be catching up to him.

It has been rumored that teams interested in Wade include the Chicago Bulls, L.A. Lakers and the Cleveland Cavaliers with his current contract opt out. These are teams linked to be interested in the running for Wade according to Sports World Report.

Wade to Chicago could be appealing to Wade, as Chicago is Wade’s home town. However, the Bulls do not have near the cap space to offer Wade $16 million a year if that is what he is looking for. He would have to take a substantial pay cut to play in his home town.

The Lakers have the money to sign Wade if that is his desired destination. The return of Kobe Bryant and Julius Randle as well as the impact of D’Angelo Russel from the NBA draft has the Lakers in position to be competitive again, as they could offer Wade the contract he wants and still have cap room to sign other position players.

The Cavaliers are also a landing spot for Wade as he could then reunite with Lebron if that is where Lebron decides to resign. This is the story that would make the most headlines in the sports world. However, a signing of Wade for $16 million a year would mean Kevin Love would not return to Cleveland and that is one of the players Lebron is waiting on to decide his destination for the 2015/2016 season.
