History In the Making? Chris Sale Looks to Continue Dominance

The Major League Baseball All-Star Game is almost upon us and all-star candidate Chris Sale of the Chicago White Sox is yet again off to another great start.

Sale will be on the mound tonight against the St.Louis Cardinals and Sale is chasing a record only one other player has accomplished in the modern era. In Sale’s past seven starts, he has recorded at least 10 or more strikeouts .

Tonight Sale has the opportunity to do something that only Pedro Martinez accomplished and that is record at least 10 strikeouts in eight straight starts.

Sale has been dominant over his past seven starts as he has recorded 85 strikeouts compared to only eight walks in 52 innings. He was only able to record three wins over his seven game stretch but that is not from lack of dominance on his part as his E.R.A. in his past seven starts is 1.90.

Sale has the opportunity to make history when he takes the mound tonight against Lance Lynn and the Cardinals.

However, if Sale is going to make history tonight on the mound, he is going to have to do it against the best team in baseball.

The Cardinals are a Major League best 51-24 this season and they are also playing their best baseball of the year right now entering the game tonight on a six game winning streak. Another advantage for the Cardinals tonight, is they are playing at Busch Stadium where the Cardinals are 29-7 at home this season.

Sale seems to have the odds against him facing the Cardinals at Busch stadium, but sale has some advantages of his own.

This is a Cardinals lineup that only has three of their hitters on the roster to ever face Sale before. They include Peter Bourjos, Jhonny Peralta and Mark Reynolds. Bourjos has only faced Sale three times and Peralta and Reynolds have struggled against Sale as they are batting .235 and .200 against Sale for their careers. Sale has also never lost an interleague start  in his career which bodes well for his chances of making history tonight.

All eyes will be on Sale tonight as he attempts to make history. He is surely capable of doing so against a Cardinals lineup who is not that familiar with seeing him. Sale has recorded 129 total strikeouts on the year and I am sure after tonight, he would love for that number to be higher than 139.

However, above all else, Sale will probably want to get his team the victory more than accomplishing a personal accolade.
