Jill Scott lights up St. Louis last night at 100.3 Beat’s Summer Block Party at the Peabody Opera House in spite of feeling hurt by the latest news about fellow Philadelphian Bill Cosby. Zach Seemayer of Entertainment Tonight reported that after hearing about the 2005 court documents where Bill was questioned and admitted to getting Quaaludes with the purpose of having sex with women, Jill openly spoke out concerning the matter stating that she is “completely disgusted.”
When Andrea Constand‘s lawyer Dolores M. Troiani asked Cosby, “When you got the Quaaludes, was it in your mind that you were going to use these Quaaludes for young women that you wanted to have sex with?” his response was, “Yes.” and this bothered the Jill and hurt her deeply.
On Twitter @missjillscott posted, “About Bill Cosby. Sadly his own testimony offers PROOF of terrible deeds, which is ALL I have ever required to believe the accusations.” Scott also posted, “We live in America. Many African American men are detained &/or imprisoned for crimes without evidence. I will never jump on bandwagons based on social media or hearsay. Proof will always matter more than public opinion. The sworn testimony is proof. Completely disgusted.”
Although the singer, songwriter and actress will not rely on social media before she gives an opinion, she will still welcome and pour out her love on stage as she gave another heart warming performance last night. After blessing the stage Jill tweeted about concert, “St. Louis you were so abundant. Full of love. Thank you kindly. Great 1st night!!!!”
Kevin C. Johnson of STL Today says her 90 minute set started out with classics like “Whatever” and “The Way,” then Jill wowed the crowed with new songs such as “Can’t Wait” and “Closure” which amped up anticipation for the new album before she got back to flowing on signature songs like “It’s Love,” “A Long Walk,” “Cross My Mind” and “Crown Royal.” The Grammy Award winning songstress’ new album is due out next month and I’m sure “Woman” will have a lot more love to pour out for us. Hats off to you Ms. Jill Scott for letting her love light shine bright in the spotlight.
