Melissa McCarthy has proven herself as a top grossing actress, now she can add another title to her resume, fashion designer.
Since her breakout role in Bridesmaids, Melissa McCarthy has been criticized for her weight. Even though she has had, magazine covers and numerous roles in hit movies, the media has given her some of the harshest criticism in the last few years. As reported by CNN, one of the most famous criticism’s came from New York Observer’s Rex Reed who called the starlet a “female hippo” and stated that she was “tractor sized She responded by saying;
“I felt really bad for someone who is swimming in so much hate,” McCarthy told the Times. “I just thought, that’s someone who’s in a really bad spot, and I am in such a happy spot” (CNN.com).
She has still struggled with her weight and style choices when getting ready for red carpet events. In an interview with Redbook in 2014, Melissa revealed that even though she was in multi-million-dollar grossing movies like Bridesmaids and The Heat with Sandra Bullock, she could not even get a designer to make her a dress for the Oscars.
“When I go shopping, most of the time I’m disappointed. Two Oscars ago, I couldn’t find anybody to do a dress for me. I asked five or six designers—very high-level ones who make lots of dresses for people—and they all said no.”
So, instead of complaining, she decided to do something about it. The forthright comedian took the problem into her own hands partnering with HSN for her new collection called Seven7.
