Week 2 of the NFL season did not disappoint in terms of entertainment value but it certainly dissapointed some fantasy football owners. Matt Jones took 2 TD’s away from Alfred Morris, Jeremy Langford took a TD away from Matt Forte and Lorenzo Taliaferro snagged a TD from Justin Forsett.
This week there are some names at the top of the fantasy football scoring list that will surprise many but that’s what makes the NFL so much fun to watch.
Ben Roethlisberger- 21/27, 369 yards, 3 TDs= 30 fantasy points
Big Ben Roethlisberger continues to thrive in Todd Haley’s offense, the fact that he threw for 369 yards on 21 completions is ridiculously efficient. It also means that the deep ball continues to remain a threat with Antonio Brown at wide out.
Former Raiders first round pick Darrius Heyward-Bey has also showed off his speed. He connected with Roethlisberger for a 35 yard TD. The 49ers simply had no answer for this Steelers offense who put up 43 points on the team from the Bay.
Next week will be a much tougher matchup for Big Ben and the Steelers as they take on the Rams in St. Louis. Expect the Rams pass rush to give Roethlisberger a lot of trouble next Sunday.
DeAngelo Williams- 20 carries, 77 yards, 3 TDs= 26 fantasy points
The Steelers had a balanced attack against the 49ers on Sunday. DeAngelo Williams had himself a career day while replacing Le’Veon Bell who will return for the Steelers next week.
The former Memphis running back, was the ultimate touchdown vulture this week. Williams had 3 TDs on the day and all three were inside 3 yards. The 49ers proved to have a solid run defense after shutting down Adrian Peterson last week and holding Williams to 77 yards. However, Williams was too unstoppable on the goal line and his fantasy owners benefited tremendously.
This will probably be it in terms of fantasy relevance for Williams. Le’Veon Bell is back next week and it will be even tougher for Williams to be productive against a stout Rams defense.
Larry Fitzgerald- 8 catches, 113 yards, 3 TDs= 29 fantasy points
Larry Fitzgerald has always had the talent of a top 5 fantasy football wide receiver but he’s never had a legitimate quarterback to get him the football. With Michael Floyd not fully healthy, Fitzgerald had to step up and he took full advantage of a Bears defense that isn’t what it used to be.
The Cardinals never let up on the Bears and put up an league-high 48 points on them. Carson Palmer to Larry Fitzgerald was a common theme all day long, including this flea-flicker.

This could either be a fluke performance or it actually mean a real resurgence for Larry Fitzgerald this season. The Cardinals take on NFC West rivals, the 49ers who just allowed 369 passing yards. It looks like a really good matchup for Fitz and the Cardinals.
Crockett Gillmore- 5 catches, 88 yards, 2 TDs= 20 fantasy points
Whether it’s been Todd Heap, Dennis Pitta or Ed Dickson, Joe Flacco’s tight ends have always had some sort of relevance in fantasy football. Now there’s a new tight end catching passes from Flacco and his name is Crockett Gillmore. You might be saying Gillmore who? The 3rd round pick out of Colorado State is 6′ 6″ 270 pounds and could be a force in the red zone for the Ravens.

Gillmore put together an incredible effort on this play to break three tackles and get into the endzone. If he ends up proving to be Joe Flacco’s security blanket going forward, he’s definitely worth picking up in your league.
Although, next week the Ravens take on the Bengals who have a very, very solid secondary so it might be best to wait a week before going after Gillmore.
