Scottish synthpop trio Chvrches are turning heads everywhere with their second studio album Every Open Eye, from Virgin Records.
The new album took the band only six months to complete—unlike their 2013 debut album, The Bones of What You Believe, which took them two years to finish—and features 11 brand new songs from the Glasgow natives.
Chvrches first single off their new album, “Leave a Trace,” has shades of early MGMT, with their energetic sound and synth-fueled beats.
The synthpop anthem “Never Ending Circles” is another surefire crowd-pleaser with its catchy hooks and vivacious sound.
“Clearest Blue,” is a rather uplifting song—the lyrics to which actually inspired the title of the album, Every Open Eye. The song talks about compromise, as lead singer Lauren Mayberry pleas, “you’ll meet me halfway.”
Like a flashback to the 1980s, “Keep You on My Side” features Mayberry’s almost Cyndi Lauper-like vocals over a masterfully produced synthpop beat.
Unlike so many other new artists, Chvrches manages to stave away the dreaded “sophomore slump,” with an equally impressive follow-up to ‘Bones.’
