El-P and Killer Mike Aren’t Kitten Around With ‘Meow The Jewels’

Hip-hop duo El-P and Killer Mike have returned with Meow the Jewels, a cat-astrophic collaboration that is more than just a novelty.

The concept to remix their second studio album, Run the Jewels 2, started as a joke but quickly escalated, gaining fan support to remix RTJ2 using nothing but cat sounds.

Through the use of the crowdfunding website Kickstarter, fans helped raise $65,783–more than $20,000 above the $45,000 goal necessary to bring the feline-fueled remix album to life.

“Did we make the silliest, ocassionally most grating possible remix? Of course,” El-P said via Twitter. “And we did it for you, Mike Brown and Eric Garner.”

Of the money raised to support the album, rapper/producer El-P said he will donate his share to a charity benefitting the families of Micahel Brown and Eric Garner.

Featuring a purr-fect mix of producers, including Just Blaze, Dan the Automator, The Alchemist, De La Soul producer Prince Paul, 3D of Massive Attack, Geoff Barrow of Portishead and 26-year-old singer-songwriter Zola Jesus, the album is comical, unapologetic, and definitely worth the listen.

And the best part is, you don’t even have to be a cat lover to enjoy it.

Meow the Jewels is now available for free online. To download your copy or to pre-order the vinyl, check out for more information.
