Tight ends are always overlooked because it generally isn’t a deep position, but finding the right player to start could always be the difference between you winning and losing a fantasy week. Here are the best and worst options for tight ends in Week 4.
CHARLES CLAY VS. NEW YORK GIANTS
Charles Clay has found success as a security blanket for his quarterbacks. Clay had pretty good fantasy value when he was catching passes from Ryan Tannehill in Miami and now he’s becoming a favorite target of Bills QB Tyrod Taylor.
Clay looked very impressive against the Dolphins last week and he now has a touchdown in back-to-back weeks.
He now has a pretty favorable matchup against the New York Giants at home. The Giants are 30th against opposing tight ends and based on the way Clay is playing, he should end up with at least 50 receiving and a touchdown.
MARTELLUS BENNETT VS. OAKLAND RAIDERS
It’s safe to say that Martellus Bennett has been a disappointment at the tight end position this season. Jimmy Clausen as the current starting quarterback along with playing Seattle last week doesn’t really help Bennett’s situation either.
However, he has a promising matchup against the Oakland Raiders in Week 4. The Raiders are dead last in the league in stopping tight ends which means Bennett could have a big day, especially if Alshon Jeffery can’t go on Sunday.
JORDAN REED VS. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
Jordan Reed has been solid during the first three weeks of the season, it’s hard to imagine what his value would be like if he had a better quarterback. However, the Redskins host the Eagles who are currently 7th best in the league against opposing tight ends.
Reed could have some value if Kirk Cousins throws some interceptions and the Eagles jump out to an early lead but otherwise Reed could be in for a long night.
JARED COOK VS. ARIZONA CARDINALS
Jared Cook started the season off well for the Rams, he had 10 total receptions the first two weeks of the season. Nick Foles seemed to have established some sort of connection with Cook but that dissipated against one of the worst pass defenses in the Steelers last week.
It really does not look good for Cook this week, the Rams take on a vicious Cardinals defense who are 6th best against opposing tight ends. This is a good time to find another tight end on the wire.
ON THE BUBBLE
ZACH ERTZ VS. WASHINGTON REDSKINS
Zach Ertz was projected to do huge things in Chip Kelly’s offense this season but he only has an abysmal 93 receiving yards on 8 catches in three games this season. The Redskins have been respectable against tight ends, they rank 12th in the NFL against them.
However, the Skins have some injuries in their secondary and they weren’t great stopping tight ends last year. There’s a slight chance that Ertz could have a significant fantasy impact against the Redskins.
