Drake Tired of No. Two

Is Drake tired of being number two on the charts? Believe it or not, Drake has yet to see the No. 1 spot on Billboard for any of his solo work, but he’s hoping that his digital download single “Hotline Bling” will be the chart topper he’s been waiting for. The song made its debut on OVO Sound Radio earlier this month and at ten weeks on the charts the song has only peaked at No. 2.

Yesterday the Toronto rapper posted an announcement about the release of a video for “Hotline Bling” on Instagram. At first he shared a photo with the date “October 19” which sparked a lot of questions.

Drake then posted “HOTLINE BLING October 19” and that really got the buzz going.

Drizzy recently told his followers that if “Hotline Bling” does top the charts, during his birth month of October, it will be the biggest moment of his career. His Instagram post read, “I spend my life trying to make waves for the city I am from. No accolades really matter to me other than the fact that I have never had a Billboard number one.

If I get my first number one during the month of October it will be the biggest moment of my career to date (in my mind) and if you are looking for me on that particular evening I will be passed out in the water slide that connects to our pool. I love you and thank you for these memories. I always love the moment right before it happens more than when it actually happens. So thank you…even if it doesn’t.”

In the past, the platinum-selling artist has topped the Hot 100 with a feature on Rihanna’s 2010 single “What’s My Name,” but his own debut single “Best I Ever Had” only peaked at No. 2 on the charts.

Back in September, Drake earned his 100th entry on the Billboard Hot 100 after eight tracks from his collaborative album with Future hit the charts, but none of the tracks have reached the No. 1 spot just yet.

Will the release of his “Hotline Bling” video send the single further up the charts and make this Drake’s first solo No. 1 hit? “Well we gon see!”
