The running back position has been a toss-up for the choose or lose picks this season, and this week will provide some interesting starts or players on the bubble. There are some picks that have found their legs again after a couple of seasons of less-than-stellar play, but they have provided the ability to flex some muscle in your fantasy football league in 2015.
Lamar Miller vs. Houston Texans
Miller had a coming out party last weekend against the Titans and you can look forward to another week of starting him against a Texans‘ defense that is anything but great. He posted 113 yards rushing and a touchdown and five receiving yards on the day, and he should be looking at another 100-plus yard rushing day against Houston.
Chris Ivory vs. New England Patriots
Another AFC East running back you should start this week is Ivory against the Patriots. The Jets and Patriots always seem to play in a hard-nosed game against each other (except for the butt fumble game), and Ivory could be a difference maker in their game this week. In his last two games, Ivory has tallied 49 carries for 312 rushing yards and two touchdowns, and he is on pace to surpass his career high in touchdowns in a season within the next couple of games.
Justin Forsett vs. Arizona Cardinals
Forsett has never had double-digit touchdowns in a season and he only has one this season. The Ravens are going up against a Cardinals‘ defense that has allowed the 15th most fantasy points to running backs this season, but Forsett is also dealing with a nagging ankle injury. If you have another running back that you can start, I would stay away from Forsett based on the fact that the Ravens will most likely be forced to pass the ball early and often against the Cardinals.
On the Bubble
C.J. Spiller vs. Indianapolis Colts
I know, I know, Spiller is not the starting running back for the Saints, but that shouldn’t stop you from possibly starting him if you need to against the Colts’ defense. Much like the Saints’ matchup with the Cowboys in Week 4 — Spiller had 16.90 points — I like the matchup versus the Colts. With the probability that this game becomes a shootout, the Saints will need to turn to a playmaker, which is exactly where Spiller fits into the equation.
Joseph Randle vs. New York Giants
With the Cowboys shaking things up offensively, Randle might be a risky play this week against the Giants. Randle had 10.70 fantasy points against the Giants in Week 1, but other than that he has only had one other game in double-digits. There has been a change made at quarterback with Matt Cassel being named the starter this week, and the Cowboys are toying with the idea that Christine Michael could get the start at running back over Randle. A scenario like that is worthy of a bubble slot for Randle in Week 7.
