The Miami Dolphins defense was a great play last week against the Texans and so was the Jacksonville Jaguars defense in London against the Buffalo Bills. If you are having to deal with your team defense being on a bye this week make sure that you pay extra attention to our picks. Several favorable matchups and defenses that you should stay away from.
Rams defense vs. San Francisco 49ers
The Rams‘ defense shutdown Cleveland in St. Louis last week and it will be more of the same this week. Chances are that you have the Rams in deeper leagues, but if they are available (or your team DEF is on a bye), the Rams are a great pick this week against the 49ers and quarterback Colin Kaepernick. The pressure will start early and often and the 49ers are terrible.
Seahawks defense vs. Dallas Cowboys
So what if the Seahawks‘ defense is below-average this season — from what we are used to seeing the last couple of years that is — they are a defense that you should start in Week 8. Even if Dez Bryant starts for the Cowboys, Seattle has the ability to make Matt Cassel’s life a living hell on Sunday. The only way that you might think twice about the Seahawks is if Brandon Weeden is starting AND Bryant is playing.
Colts defense vs. Carolina Panthers
If you are starting the Colts‘ defense, you had better hope that you have some superstars at other positions to make up for the beating that they are going to take this week. Cam Newton will expose this defense for what it is — a joke — and this game could be over at halftime. If you like living on the edge, by all means, start the Colts D, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Dolphins defense vs. New England Patriots
Yes, the Dolphins’ defense has accumulated double-digit fantasy points three times in 2015, but they are on a short week and facing Tom Brady. If you have to start them, you can, or look to see who is available on waivers and pick them up while sending your No. 2 kicker to the wire. Defense wins championships, but not always in fantasy football.
On the Bubble
Bengals defense vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
Ben Roethlisberger is expected to be back for this game, and that should concern fantasy owners that have the Bengals‘ defense as their No. 1 option. The Steelers‘ offense is a Big Ben away from exploding on other NFL teams, and this week could be a shootout between these two teams.
Steelers defense vs. Cincinnati Bengals
Oh look, we are picking two bubble defenses from the same game. The Steelers’ defense has the ability to make plays but Bengals’ QB Andy Dalton has been on fire this season — to the mark of 14 touchdowns and only two interceptions. That does not bode well for the Steelers in their Week 8 matchup, and you should adjust your roster accordingly.
