The Oakland Raiders might have struck gold in Derek Carr. One of Carr’s biggest criticisms coming out of college was his inability to handle the blitz. However, last week against the Jets he made one of the best defenses in the league look really bad. Will he be a quarterback to choose or lose this week? Let’s find out.
DEREK CARR VS. PITTSBURGH STEELERS
Derek Carr has thrown for a combined seven touchdown passes against two of the best passing defenses in the NFL, the Chargers and Jets. This week Carr has the opportunity to stay hot against the Pittsburgh Steelers who are 22nd in the league against opposing quarterbacks.
The Steelers have Ben Roethlisberger back which could lead to a lot of points scored in this game. Carr and the Raiders should air it out against the Steelers who are decent against the run game.
TYROD TAYLOR VS. MIAMI DOLPHINS
The Buffalo Bills will be happy to have starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor back after the team’s last two games. Taylor has already faced the Dolphins this season and he threw for 277 yards with three touchdowns and zero turnovers.
On top of that, the Dolphins are 17th in the league against quarterbacks and they’ve allowed seven total touchdowns the last two weeks. Tyrod Taylor should come back in a big way against the Dolphins defense.
MARCUS MARIOTA VS. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
Marcus Mariota is another quarterback making his return after an injured knee two weeks ago. Now that Ken Wisenhunt has been fired, the Titans might be opening up the playbook even more for Mariota.
The former Heisman winner has proven to play well against awful defenses this year and the Saints are just that. Eli Manning just threw for six touchdowns and while Mariota isn’t Eli Manning, he can still exploit the Saints defense that is last in the NFL against fantasy quarterbacks.
SAM BRADFORD VS. DALLAS COWBOYS
Since his great performances against the Redskins and Saints, Sam Bradford simply hasn’t been the guy the Eagles traded for. He hasn’t scored more than 20 fantasy points since then and this week the Eagles have a divisional game against the Cowboys.
The Cowboys are now 10th in the league against quarterbacks after keeping Eli Manning and Russell Wilson in check. Sam Bradford should not be a starter for fantasy teams this week.
CAM NEWTON VS. GREEN BAY PACKERS
The Packers defense has been revamped this year after Clay Matthews got moved to inside linebacker. It’s worked dividends for a Packers defense that has struggled over the last couple of seasons.
Cam Newton didn’t really step up against the Colts on Monday Night Football when he had a great matchup. The Packers are now 4th in the league against quarterbacks and they didn’t allow a touchdown to Peyton Manning last week. Find another alternative to Cam Newton this week.
ON THE BUBBLE
ANDY DALTON VS. CLEVELAND BROWNS
Andy Dalton had his worst performance of the season against the Pittsburgh Steelers last weekend. The Steelers aren’t great against the passing game but the fact that it was a divisional game helped the Steelers attack the Bengals tendencies.
The same could happen this week against the Cleveland Browns who are only 19th in the league against quarterbacks. They did well against Nick Foles and Peyton Manning but not against Carson Palmer last week. Andy Dalton might be a risk this week but it’s the Browns so anything is possible.
