Over the years, hip-hop mogul Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs has produced albums for such big name artists as Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, Ice Cube, Rick Ross, and of course the Notorious B.I.G.
Now, 14 years since his 2001 studio album, The Saga Continues, Combs reunites with the entire Bad Boy Family on his new concept album, MMM.
Short for “Money Making Mitch,” MMM pays homage to Mekhi Phifer’s character in the 2002 cult-classic Paid in Full from Roc-A-Fella Films.
Although Mitch dies in the movie, Combs said he wanted to revive the character in this “fairytale” story about a young hustler from Harlem who is driven by his success.
In a letter to BET, Combs explains “with this fairytale that I created in my brain, imagine if Mitch lived, survived, took those different talents and attributes and business skills and applied it to the world of business… [because] we got millions of cats that are coming up with that hustler’s spirit and drive. They got that Mitch in them and they ain’t going to fall to the wayside.”
But MMM is not the type of fairytale parents should read their kids.
The album kicks off with “Harlem,” a darkly uplifting track featuring Bad Boy Entertainment’s newest addition, up-and-coming female rapper, Gizzle.
In an interview with Rap-Up TV, Gizzle talks about her role in the Bad Boy Family and opens up about collaborating with Combs on his forthcoming album, No Way Out 2—the long-awaited follow-up to his 1997 debut album, which some believe could be Combs’ last.
MMM, also features a slew of guest appearences by such heavy-hitters French Montana, Brucie B, Lil Kim, Jadakiss and Styles P of the L.O.X., Pusha T, Wiz Khalifa, King Los and newcomers like Future, Ty Dolla $ign, Big Sean, Travi$ Scott and Sevyn Streeter.
