Zach Miller managed to put together one of the best games of his career against the Rams in Week 10. Has he started to position himself into a first or second tier fantasy tight end? Or are there other tight ends who are still better options? It’s a Week 11 edition of choose or lose at the tight end position.
TRAVIS KELCE VS. SAN DIEGO CHARGERS
Travis Kelce is a top 10 fantasy tight end but he only has three touchdowns this season. That’s pretty dissapointing considering Alex Smith doesn’t throw touchdowns to wide receivers very often. Kelce is still on pace to have more than 1,000 receiving yards and there’s a strong probability that he scores against the Chargers.
San Diego is 23rd against tight ends and they’ve allowed at least one touchdown at the position the last three weeks. Travis Kelce should be in your lineup regardless, but at least you can have a bit more confidence this week.
JASON WITTEN VS. MIAMI DOLPHINS
Jason Witten owners are rejoicing because Tony Romo is finally going to be back for the Dallas Cowboys this week. Whether Romo is 100 percent or not, we all know he’s going to target Witten as his safety blanket no matter what.
The Dolphins are 19th against tight ends and they just allowed Brent Celek of the Eagles to have a big day. Witten will finally start producing at a rate that fantasy owners can count on.
ANTONIO GATES VS. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
Antonio Gates is likely to see the ball thrown his way for most of the game against the Chiefs. However, I think the Chiefs will understand that Gates is the primary weapon in the offense as of now and they’ll do whatever they can to make sure Danny Woodhead and Dontrelle Inman beat them.
Plus the Chiefs are 1st in the NFL against fantasy tight ends. Normally I would like to go with Gates but I’ve got a feeling the Chiefs will slow him down.
TYLER EIFERT VS. ARIZONA CARDINALS
Tyler Eifert has been a solid fantasy tight end so far this season. However, other than his three touchdown performance against the Browns, Eifert hasn’t produced in two of the last three weeks.
This week he faces a stingy Cardinals defense that is 4th best against fantasy tight ends. Tyrann Mathieu matches up well with an athletic tight end like Eifert and he’ll make his life very difficult. I don’t trust Eifert this week.
ON THE BUBBLE
JIMMY GRAHAM VS. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS
Jimmy Graham has been an up and down fantasy commodity so far this season. Russell Wilson and the Seahawks obviously don’t throw the ball as much as Drew Brees and the Saints did. This week Graham could breakout against a below average secondary in the 49ers.
The problem is the 49ers are 13th in the league against tight ends and Graham only had 2 catches for 31 yards in their last matchup. The Seahawks will need Graham to assert himself if they are to keep pace with the Cardinals in the division, it could go either way.
