Last week the Carolina Panthers defense was dominant against the Dallas Cowboys. However, they’re a must-start defense which means they won’t be on this list. Let’s take a look at which defenses will be on this week’s list.
HOUSTON TEXANS VS. BUFFALO BILLS
The Houston Texans defense is finally starting to pick things up in what should be a heated AFC South division race. This week they take on the Bills who actually haven’t been awful against opposing defenses.
It’s the Texans defense that is starting to put up big numbers. They’ve only allowed six points to teams in three of the last four weeks and they’ve scored at least eight fantasy points or more in those games. The Texans should be a solid play this week, especially if they’re still on the wire.
MINNESOTA VIKINGS VS. SEATTLE SEAHAWKS
Mike Zimmer continues to show why he’s one of the better defensive head coaches in the NFL. Last week his team completely shut down the Falcons and limited Julio Jones to just five catches for 56 yards.
Now the Vikings host the Seahawks who are fresh off of scoring 39 points on the Steelers. The Vikings have quietly scored double digit points in two of the last three weeks and linebacker Anthony Barr is blossoming into a star. I like the Vikings to shut down the Seahawks offense this week.
NEW YORK GIANTS VS. NEW YORK JETS
The New York Giants are doing everything possible to make sure they don’t win the NFC East. They’ve proven that they can compete with anyone in the league but they still can’t finish games.
This week they take on the Jets for a rivalry in the Meadowlands which should be very entertaining. The Giants defense started the season well but they haven’t been great since then.
They’ve only sacked the quarterback three times over their last four games. They might be able to get a few interceptions off Ryan Fitzpatrick but the Jets offense has been playing well. This could end up being a high scoring game.
ON THE BUBBLE
CHICAGO BEARS VS. SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS
The Chicago Bears defense has been awful from a fantasy perspective. They have yet to produce a double digit performance so far this season. They actually have a decent matchup against the 49ers who are 28th in the league against fantasy defenses.
If there’s a time to take a chance on the Bears defense for a week, it’s now. That’s unless Blaine Gabbert finds a way to hold on to the ball, which he’s surprisingly been able to do these last couple of weeks.
