Bowl Bash Preview- December 19th

Bowl season is upon us, which makes it one of the most wonderful times of the year. We at Salute Magazine are breaking down bowl games slightly different than anyone else. Instead of giving you a mile long list of bowl previews, we are attacking them based on the date.

It makes it easier for you as the reader and it keeps the games organized for quicker reference. Without further delay, here are the games on December 19th. After going 5-0 on Championship Saturday that brings my record to 17-8 going into bowl season.

ALCORN STATE (9-3, 7-2) VS. NC A&T (9-1, 7-0)

The Matchup:

Normally FCS teams don’t play bowl games but the Celebration bowl is being broadcast by ESPN which actually makes it a part of bowl season.

Alcorn State are the SWAC champions, they’re also in the same conference as the historic Grambling vs. Southern rivalry down south. North Carolina A&T are the MEAC champions where college bands reign supreme.

This is a tough game to predict since the level of competition isn’t that great. There have been FCS teams that have upset some FBS teams like Citadel over South Carolina and Portland State over Washington State.

These two each took on an FBS team during the season and got blown out. They both played teams in the ACC, but Alcorn State got beat by Georgia Tech 69-6 and NC A&T lost to UNC 53-14.

Both teams have duel threat quarterbacks and will want to establish the run in this game, but it’ll go either way.

The Prediction:

The MEAC and SWAC likely have a similar level of competition that they face all year which makes this game tough to call.

The thing I’ll go off of is that Alcorn State somehow let Georgia Tech score 69 points when they only threw the ball five times the entire game.

North Carolina’s high powered offense is much more balanced and NC A&T actually managed close to 300 total yards of total offense.

It’s bowl season so anything can happen and NC A&T are 1.5 point favorites, I’ll take the Aggies in a close one.
