Bowl Bash Preview – Dec. 26

Bowl season is upon us, which makes it one of the most wonderful times of the year. We at Salute Magazine are breaking down bowl games slightly different than anyone else. Instead of giving you a mile long list of bowl previews, we are attacking them based on the date. It makes it easier for you as the reader and it keeps the games organized for quicker reference. Without further delay, here are the games on December 26th. After going 5-1 with the December 19th picks, that brings my record to 22-9.

MIAMI (8-4, 5-2 ACC) VS. WASHINGTON STATE (8-4, 6-3 PAC-12)

Sun Bowl

The Matchup:

This game has the makings of being one of the best that bowl season has to offer. Two star quarterbacks square off in the Sun Bowl, Brad Kaaya of Miami and Luke Falk of Washington State. Miami had a decent year with Kaaya as the starter, they came up just short against Florida State but got romped by the two best teams in the conference.

As for Washington State, Mike Leach has the Cougars relevant again with his air raid offense. They rebounded well from their loss to Portland State but ended the regular season poorly against their rivals, Washington. This is the Cougars two bowl appearance in the last two years. The Sun Bowl should definitely see plenty of points.

The Prediction:

Washington State are three point favorites because of their high powered offense and Miami gave up 58 points to Clemson and 59 points to North Carolina this season. The thing is, North Carolina and Clemson didn’t even throw for more than 300 yards combined in those two games.

Washington State averaged nearly 400 yards passing per game whereas Miami only gives up half as many passing yards. Mike Leach’s passing offense will get stuck here and Miami should cover and win this game.
