Bowl season is upon us, which makes it one of the most wonderful times of the year. We at Salute Magazine are breaking down bowl games slightly different than anyone else. Instead of giving you a mile long list of bowl previews, we are attacking them based on the date. It makes it easier for you as the reader and it keeps the games organized for quicker reference. Without further delay, here are the games on December 28th. After going 3-3 with the December 26th picks, that brings my record to 25-12.
PITTSBURGH (8-4, 6-2 ACC) VS. #21 NAVY (10-2, 7-1 AAC)
Navy versus Pittsburgh is definitely one of the more intriguing matchups during Bowl season. Navy joined the AAC and had one of the best seasons they’ve ever had.
Pittsburgh were a competitive team in the ACC and also experienced a bit of a resurgence under new head coach Pat Narduzzi.
Pittsburgh’s losses came against Iowa, UNC, Notre Dame and Miami. Three of those four teams were ranked in the top 10 at some point this season. Navy’s losses came against Notre Dame and the conference champs Houston.
The lack of competition in the AAC helped out Navy immensely this year but take nothing away from QB Keenan Reynolds who is the NCAA all-time leader for total touchdowns. Something has to give in this matchup considering Pitt only allows 126 yards per game on the ground.
Navy somehow received a home game for the Military Bowl which may give them an advantage. The key to this game is simple, can Pitt stop Navy’s triple option attack in this game? Navy averages more than 300 yards rushing per game but they are not a team that is built to come from behind.
Pittsburgh are only three point underdogs and they have been competitive in all four of their losses. Navy won’t be able to give Keenan Reynolds the sendoff he deserves.
