Bowl Bash Preview – College Football Playoff (Dec. 31)

Bowl season is upon us, which makes it one of the most wonderful times of the year. We at Salute Magazine are breaking down bowl games slightly different than anyone else. Instead of giving you a mile long list of bowl previews, we are attacking them based on the date. It makes it easier for you as the reader and it keeps the games organized for quicker reference. Without further delay, here are the previews of the bowl games on Dec. 31.

Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl

Houston (12-1, 7-1 AAC) vs. Florida State (10-2, 6-2 ACC)

The biggest enemy for Florida State in this game is overconfidence, and if that is the route they choose they could be in serious trouble. Houston has every chance to win the Peach Bowl because of a solid team that roared through AAC play and began the season with a 10-game winning streak. Following a 20-17 loss to the UCONN Huskies, they rattled off two wins against ranked opponents (Temple and Navy) on their way to the AAC championship title.

The Seminoles come into the bowl game with a chance to end a decent season but starting quarterback Everett Golson will not be under center. Yes, Sean Maguire is more than capable of leading the Seminoles to victory, but it is somewhat concerning that FSU is playing QB roulette lately.

FSU is a seven point favorite but don’t discount what Houston has done this season, especially on defense. With the lack of interest in this game from FSU fans, there could be a pro-Houston crowd that will help the Cougars keep it close.
