“I figured out how to wear makeup by going to Sephora and this lady was like ‘Here! Use all this shit!’ and I was like‘…Okay.’”
MTV has ordered four new “female centric” shows for 2016, and up-and-coming actress and comedian Nicole Byer is in 50 per cent of them. according to MTV, Byer is “about to redefine the term ‘ladylike’” with the brand new show Ladylike, which will premiere on MTV in early 2016.
Byer is best-known for her role on the series Girl Code (2013-present), a show “all about smart and funny women who aren’t afraid to talk about anything.” MTV’s head of Reality Programming and Executive Vice President of Series Development says Ladylike, which is a spin-off series of Girl Code, “takes that sensibility to the street to raise hell and challenge a few gender norms along the way.”
This year Byer will also release her new sitcom, which as of now, is only known as The Untitled Nicole Byer Project. The series will star Byer as a city girl whose New York apartment burns down, forcing her to move in with her family in the suburbs.
In addition, the comedian will be part of the cast of Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s Little Darlings, will also be a vehicle for Byer. The show has been described by Deadline as “a dark half-hour comedy about two very unlikely friends taking justice into their own hands and literally kicking ass on a college campus.”
Byer truly has a lot on her plate, but she manages her hectic schedule well. Aside from her many television appearances, she also currently performs sketch comedy at UCB Sunset on Maude Night With New Money and also performs improv every night at UCB Franklin With Search History. Byer fans will also have the pleasure of seeing her perform a live, free stand-up show featuring comedian/ Internet sensation Thomas Dale by her side. The show is booked for March 26 at the Sub Ballrooms in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Nicole has been performing at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre (UBC) since 2010, but finally after six years, Byer is becoming not only well`-known, but popular. The comedian has come quite a long way since the beginning of her career when fame was only a dream for her.
In only the last couple of years Byer has not only been part of the cast of Girl Code, but she has also made appearances on NBC’s 30 Rock, ABC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, E!’s Chelsea Lately, season one and two of The Birthday Boys on IFC, Friends of the People on truTV and Comedy Central’s @midnight.
She has also been a part of the online entertainment world, as she has been featured in College Humor videos, the comedy video website Funny or Die and The Pursuit of Sexiness, which she co-created with Saturday Night Live’s Sasheer Zamata. Pursuit was one of Variety’s best series of 2013.
Nicole Byer finally seems to be earning the adoration of fans and career opportunities she has always deserved. Those familiar with this talented comedian, who has been “unleashing her hilarity” for years can agree that Byer is finally getting her due.
