Miguel signs to IMG

If his Instagram snaps are any indication, it’s no surprise that Grammy-nominated R&B singer Miguel has more going for him than churning out those sultry late-night hits. He rounded out 2015 with a new contract for prestigious international modeling agency IMG, which has legs in major fashion capitals New York, Milan, Sydney, Paris and London.

The singer is stoked about this new feather in his cap, and with two recent Grammy nominations—one for Best Contemporary Album for Wildheart and another for Best R&B song for “Coffee,” where he shows he’s so much hotter than your cuppa Joe—it’s definitely more than a marketing chess move. Along with your standard roster of famous beautiful people (to wit, Gigi Hadid and Kate Moss), he now joins the likes of fellow social media movers and shakers as well from beyond the model bubble, including Bryanboy, Sky Ferreira, Leigh Lezark and, yes, Wiz Khalifa, proving talent, in the cutthroat world of brand extension, is the most bankable feature of all.

The Los Angeles native (see: the artist formerly known as Miguel Jontel) broke out on the music scene with 2008’s “Sure Thing,” a self-proclaimed highly personal tome that ended up, after initial underpromotion, spending 45 weeks on the charts and being a sleeper hit amongst international choreographers. The single was followed a couple years later by its carrier album—and his official industry debut LP—All I Want Is You in November 2010. Comparisons to similar smooth crooners Jon B, Marvin Gaye and Babyface helped pique the public’s attention: His next hit soon became his biggest, and the hero single of 2012’s critically-acclaimed Kaleidoscope World, “Adorn,” an emotional, bass-and-synth valentine for girlfriend Nazanin Mandi, went off to win a Grammy for Best R&B Song and is the current record-holder for longest stay on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart.

Now a fan favorite and industry mainstay, longtime love (also: aforementioned “Adorn” muse and most recently, rumored fiancée) and Wilhelmina stable talent Nazanin has probably shared some modeling tricks of the trade herself. We can’t wait for those pre-nup photos.
