If you were asleep, or under a rock yesterday you might have missed the fact that Queen Bey dropped a pre-Super Bowl treat upon us with some new music and an accompanying video.
The new song and video entitled “Formation” which dropped on Tidal, gave us a massive dose of Beyoncé’s lack of f*cks given for the new year, and we even get a glimpse of Blue Ivy. The video was filled with New Orleans theme’s with shots of 9TH Ward neighborhoods, antebellum mansions, and flooded streets with Beyoncé’ sinking into the water on top of an engulfed police car. But of course, it wouldn’t be New Orleans themed if the Queen of Bounce herself Big Freedia wasn’t featured on the track.
In addition to strong Creole themes in the visuals, there were also nods to the Black Lives Matter movement with the words “Stop Shooting Us” spray-painted on the side of a building. The lyrics were even more telling. In this new track, Bey expressed her feelings to various criticisms that she has faced over the years about her child, her man, and her bank account. There was even a quip in her lyrics about taking her man to Red Lobster if he performs well in the bedroom. Funnily enough, Red Lobster replied with this Tweet.
