Nicholas K. Fall/Winter 2016

Nicholas K. gave us another glimpse into the world of the “Modern Nomad” this week with their Fall/Winter 2016  entitled “Arcosanti”collection. The sibling duo of Nicholas and Christopher Kunz has proven once again that they are at the forefront of wearable luxury.

The brand, which launched in 2004, was created with the idea of creating clothing that not only traveled well, but also was durable. If you have never heard of the design duo of Nicholas K., you have undoubtedly seen them. One of their signature pieces, the “Nova” Jacket was worn by Jennifer Lawrence in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”(Shown Below).

As we reported in September, their futuristic fashion fits right in with those who wish to be stylish and functional. It is no wonder the wardrobe stylists of the Hunger Games franchise chose one of their designs for the heroine of the future.
This season we are reminded why this brand has been on the cover of various magazines around the world, as well as on the silver screen. Nicholas K. brought femininity to their futuristic designs with long silk dresses accompanied by their statement harnesses, and thick leather belting. The collection which included loose, comfortable kaftans, poncho’s, and tunics, as well as tailored pants and convertible two-way shirt-dresses, encompasses the idea of being a nomad in our ultra-polished society.  Their collection was inspired by Paolo Soleri‘s concept of “arcology”, the fusion between architecture and ecology. Below are a few of our favorite pieces from the collection.

Balancing utility with luxury can be a difficult task but time, and again, this duo has mastered the craft.Even more daunting is the task of using natural materials in a way that can be rugged, but also delicate. In hues that range from “aubergine” to “dune”, and fabrics that range from stretched silk-satin, to Peruvian Alpaca, the fall/winter collection displayed extraordinary artisanship, and attention to detail. In an industry where the art of clothing can sometimes be eclipsed by trends, the designers at Nicholas K. have succeeded in setting a bar for innovation through design.
