NBA Team of the Week: Feb 28-Mar 6

The NBA’s tagline in recent years has been, “Where amazing happens.” Some of the best athletes on the planet are doing incredible things on a daily basis in the NBA. It’s a league that allows for people from around the world to come together and enjoy the game of basketball.

The league has stars spread out across the country and it’s time to highlight some of those stars for their performances. Salute Magazine brings you our NBA team of the week. The averages posted are only from the past week.

RUSSELL WESTBROOK- 20.3 PPG, 11.4 APG, 8.8 RPG, .417% FGP

Russell Westbrook and the Thunder went 2-2 as a team over the last week. Everyone will highlight the blown lead against the Clippers and the blowout loss to the Warriors.

Despite those losses, Russell Westbrook was incredible in their two wins. The former UCLA guard posted triple-doubles in their wins over the Kings and Bucks.

Westbrook plays every game like it is his last and he gets it done on both ends of the floor. This was his filthy rejection of Greg Monroe in Sunday’s game.

He also had this savage dunk against the Warriors earlier in the week.

The Thunder have some issues defensively but it’s not because of Russell Westbrook.

PAUL GEORGE- 27.8 PPG, 5.0 APG, 7.8 RPG, .474% FGP

The Indiana Pacers played four really close games this week, including a four point loss to the Cavaliers and one point win over the Wizards. Paul George has come back with a vengeance and the numbers he put up this week do not lie.

George was unstoppable last night and took full advantage of a porous Wizards defense. With George’s help, the Pacers could once again be a dark horse in the Eastern conference.

GIANNIS ANTETOKOUNMPO- 23.3 PPG, 9.0 APG, 10.8 RPG, 2.8 SPG, 2.3 BPG, .470% FGP

Giannis Antetokounmpo aka the Greek Freak, has been playing like a freak all week long. He was by far the best player in the NBA this week after he posted three triple-doubles in four games, including 26 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists against the Thunder.

The Milwaukee Bucks scouting departing deserves a gold medal for finding this guy.

Giannis also used his length to put down some ferocious dunks on the Thunder. Including this one on Serge Ibaka.

Antetokounmpo made it look really easy on the this play as well.

The Greek Freak is slowly starting to turn the NBA into his playground and with the teams the Bucks have built, it might not be long before they become contenders.

KEVIN DURANT- 30.3 PPG, 7.0 APG, 10.8 RPG, 2.3 BPG, .493% FGP

Kevin Durant is arguably the greatest scorer in the world and that was evident over this past week. KD dropped 30 or more points in three of the four games played, and he’s got six straight double-doubles. The fact that he shot almost 50 percent from the field is just ridiculous.

The Thunder need to do whatever it takes to keep Kevin Durant in Oklahoma City because he’s a once in a lifetime type of player.

HASSAN WHITESIDE- 17.0 PPG, 14.3 RPG, 4.5 BPG, .537% FGP

Hassan Whiteside has been a revelation for the Miami Heat since they signed him last season. Whiteside is a very athletic big man who is a force in the pain, his ability to block shots and rebound at a high rate makes him an intriguing talent.

Whiteside has recorded double-doubles in eight out of his last nine games, he also had seven blocks on Sunday and the Heat are on a five game winning streak. This is the type of impact he can have on a game.

The Heat have plenty to be excited about with Whiteside as their big man for the future.
