The New York Jets and GM Mike Maccagnan continue to show that the ycan make all the right moves in free agency . The day after the Jets lose Chris Ivory to the Jacksonville Jaguars, they go out and sign former Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news earlier today.

There’s no word on the length of the deal or the amount of money that Matt Forte is getting. However, Forte has said that if he did go elsewhere, he would prefer going to a contender rather than getting more money. The Jets just missed out on the playoffs after finishing 10-6 last season.
Matt Forte spent eight years in Chicago and was never fully appreciated by the fans due to his history of injuries. The former Tulane running back can be injury prone and now he’s 30, but when he’s healthy, he’s still among one of the best running backs in the league.
Forte has accumulated at least 800 rushing yards in every single season as a pro and he’s broken the 1,000 yard mark five time. He’s also one of the best pass-catching running backs in the league. Forte has never had a season with less than 44 receptions and he is as reliable as they come.
If the Jets do not re-sign Ryan Fitzpatrick then Geno Smith will be the starter again. Smith can have no excuse for not playing well with Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker and now Matt Forte to throw the ball too.
Teams around the NFL have gotten off to a great start with the Free Agency frenzy in full force, the Jets can be added to that list.
