Robert Griffin III is heading to the Cleveland Browns after a tumultuous spell with the Washington Redskins. ESPN Insider Adam Schefter reported the news on Twitter earlier today.

If he wins the starting quarterback job, RG3 will become the 25th quarterback to start for the Browns since 1999.
Robert Griffin III visited with the Jets, Broncos and Browns before decided he wanted to go to Cleveland. According to the Cleveland Browns official website, he was sold on the Dawg Pound after meeting with head coach Hue Jackson and associate head coach Pep Hamilton.
The former Baylor star released this statement.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to join the Dawg Pound and help build something here in Cleveland. Coach Hue and Pep, I had a great meeting with them. I really believe in what they preach and how they can help not only me as a player but this team win games and that’s what we’re all about.
“I’m just excited to come in and compete. Nothing’s ever been given to me in my life, so I just want to go out and compete with the guys and grow with this team. I feel like that’s all I’m really focused on.”
Robert Griffin III was drafted number two overall by the Washington Redskins. His first season as a rookie in 2012 is still his best as a pro by far. RG3 threw for 3,200 yards, 20 touchdowns, 5 interceptions and rushed for 815 yards.
Despite getting off to such a promising start, Griffin experienced numerous injuries during his time in Washington. Once Jay Gruden was hired to be the new head coach, RG3 fell out of favor with the team. It was only a matter of time before they let RG3 go and they did so on March 7th.
Regardless of how well Robert Griffin III plays, there is going to be plenty of media attention in Cleveland. The drama in Cleveland seemed over after the Browns cut Johnny Manziel but there is bound to be some more with Robert Griffin III coming to town.
Robert Griffin III has a fresh start and a chance to become a legitimate starting quarterback in the NFL again. He will have to beat out Josh McCown, Austin Davis and Connor Shaw for the job.
There’s a strong likelihood that RG3 is the Browns starter next season but it will be interesting to see if he can handle the anticipation and pressure in Cleveland.
