As if the 2016 NCAA Tournament wasn’t wild enough already, the championship gave us even more magical madness. After North Carolina found itself in a 10-point hole against Villanova late in the second half, a game-tying 3-pointer from North Carolina’s Marcus Paige with 4.7 seconds left looked to send the game towards overtime.
In the words of Lee Corso, “Not so fast, my friend.”
Villanova’s Ryan Arcidiacono drove to the 3-point line and threw a pass back to Kris Jenkins, who calmly fired a dagger into the hearts of the Tar Heels’ faithful and gave Villanova a wild 77-74 victory, as well as their second basketball national championship in school history.
It is their first national championship since 1985, when they stunned the sports world with a win over Georgetown.
