New England Patriots Win AFC Crown
The New England Patriots crushed the Pittsburg Steelers in the AFC Championship game 36-17.
Sunday the Patriots showed the Steelers who owns the AFC. They went on top early by taking a 10-0 lead in the game. Then the Steelers score late in the first quarter to bring the game to 10-6. The Pats still showed dominance and scored again. The half ended in the score 17-9. Yes, the game seemed close but when watching it you felt that the Pats are going to win. The next half was more of the Pats rolling over the Steelers. The score went o 36-9 with minutes left in fourth and eventually the Steelers score late but it was not enough.
The Pats got off with a break as the Steelers’ running back Le’Veon Bell gets a groin injury in the first quarter. He finished with six carries for a total of 20 yards according to ESPN. They were still able to contain the Steelers other offensive threat, Antonio Brown. Brown finished the game with seven receptions with a total of 77 yards. He averages 85.6 yards a game states ESPN. The Pats made Brown a nonfactor.
The Steelers even had a record setting day by their quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Big Ben is sixth most-all-time in postseason passing yards passing Dan Marino. Ben finished the game with plenty yards but not enough touchdowns. He threw for 314 yards with one touchdown and interception shown by ESPN.
After the game Steelers’ coach Mike Tomlin had some things to say to Barry Wilner of the Associated Press.
“We’ve got to be capable of overcoming those things,” Mike said. “Injuries and so forth are part of the game. The reality is we didn’t make enough plays in any of the three phases.”
Now the Patriots were feeling great. Tom Brady threw for 384 yards and three touchdowns state AP. The performance was the franchises playoff-best. He also made their wide receiver Chris Hogan look elite with his 180 yards receiving off of nine catches. Hogan and Brady hooked up for 2 touchdowns as well. ESPN also shows the stats of Julian Edelman who caught nine receptions for 118 yards and a touchdown.
The Patriots did whatever they wanted.
Brady and Hogan then had comments after the game stated on AP.
“This is my motivation right here, all these fellas in front of me, these guys,” Brady said. “The boys showed up to play today.”
Hogan went on to say, “It’s been a long journey, but I’ve worked really hard to get to this point. I couldn’t be happier to get to be a part of this thing, this team-this whole thing.”
The Patriots way has worked for them for some time now. The Super Bowl is the Patriot’s ninth appearance and Tom Brady has a chance to win his fifth. The winningest quarter back in NFL history will be Tom Brady if they win. It doesn’t stop there.
Tom Brady and Bill Belichick have won 24 playoff games, the most in NFL history by coach and QB. It is also the most by any quarter back as well, all according to AP. The crazy part is that this is after the suspension of Tom Brady form last year’s Deflategate scandal. They use unknown players and still get the job done. Hogan is a prime example by being an undrafted player to star receiver. They went against all odds and kept it the Patriots way to the Super Bowl.
The Patriots will face the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI and keep doing it the Patriots way.
