Balmain Roars onto the Runway

Paris Fashion Week- Balmain is the ‘IT’ brand for the young and fabulous. This season, designer Olivier Rousteing has gone outside of the gilded streets of Paris for inspiration and taken us straight into the jungle.

Olivier Roustieng is known as a young visionary in the fashion world. He was appointed as creative director of Balmain in 2011 at the age of 24, which made him the youngest creative director since Yves Saint Laurent. Since his tenure at Balmain, he has created a massive following for himself and the brand. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner,  Rihanna, and many other members of the #BALMAINARMY came out for the show. Musician’s Nick Jonas, Nicki Minaj, attended the show to support Rousteing on his latest collection.

According to a previous interview with British Vogue via Business of Fashion, Rousteing stated:

“A woman who is going to wear Balmain is a warrior,The women I dress are powerful, they are strong, they are women who are going to change the world”.

In his latest collection for the fashion house, Rousteing seemed to be inspired by the warrior women and animals of Africa.  One of his modern muses Gigi Hadid opened the show, with a multi-print brown fringed dress with brown suede boots. The models wore their hair in corn-rowed ponytails that were slicked back on the sides, and their lips were bare with the exception of a gold color block in the middle of their pout.

Although the casting and message were perfect for this collection, that was about all there was for the symmetry here. Most of the styles that came down the runway were patchwork dresses and skirts that quite frankly were a bit too busy (below).

Nevertheless, the collection did have some stunning pieces that Balmain is known for, the blazers and coats in the collection were stunning. In particular, a grommeted trenchcoat, leather, and wool wrap trench coat, a Zebra Trench with a convertible zipper and exaggerated lapel (below). To close out the show Kendall Jenner strutted down the runway in an over the top floor length alligator vest.

In addition to the gorgeous outerwear, the brand also had beautiful accessories this season including handbags and jewelry.
